EDC Completes Improved Design of Kidron A2 Cab for American LaFrance Metropolitan Truck

PORTLAND, Ore., 2000--Engineering Design Consultants, Ltd. (EDC) of Portland, Ore., announced the completion of the redesign of the Kidron/American LaFrance A2 heavy truck cab. The A2 cab and chassis are currently used in American LaFrance’s Metropolitan line of heavy trucks.

Kidron and American LaFrance hired EDC to help reduce post-production touch-up costs and tolerance problems on the original A2 cab design. The original A2 cab design incorporated an entirely welded cab structure that exceeded build tolerances during the welding process. To reduce production costs and improve the overall design of the A2, EDC redesigned the A2 cab to incorporate rivets and bolts.

The final product of the EDC re-design was an improved A2 cab structure made of several different joined assemblies that reduced final production costs and ensured the cab would adhere to suitable tolerances. With the addition of the redesigned, riveted and bolted A2 cab, the Metropolitan truck was able to remain one of American LaFrance’s most technologically advanced and cost-effective custom fire trucks.
