EDC completes design, meshing on Eagle cab

PORTLAND, Ore., 2001--Engineering Design Consultants, Ltd. (EDC) of Portland, Ore., recently announced the completion of the integrated design and meshing work on the American LaFrance Eagle line of fire truck chassis. Specifically designed to maximize firefighter safety and effectiveness, the American LaFrance Eagle chassis is touted as the most innovative fire truck cab and chassis design on the market.

Looking for expert assistance to help complete the Eagle design, American LaFrance selected EDC to provide meshing and computer-aided design (CAD) geometry for the assembly of the cab. The integration of EDC’s services into American LaFrance’s pre-existing design work was integral to the completion of the Eagle cab and chassis.

“It would have been extremely difficult or impossible to do this project without [the] help of EDC because of our lack of internal resources at the time,” said Freightliner Senior Developer Dan Schmit.

The custom crafted American LaFrance Eagle cab design remains the only cab on the market to pass all three sections of the European ECE-R29 crashworthiness testing, and all FMVSS and FMCRS requirements.
