EDC helps complete insect trap design for IPM

PORTLAND, Ore., January 7, 2001—Engineering Design Consultants, Ltd. (EDC) announced today the completion of a capture cup design for Integrated Pest Management Technologies’ (IPM) newest Intercept Panel Trap for Bark Beetles (PTBB). Created specifically for the effective capture of bark beetles, the trap was designed and manufactured through the combined efforts of IPM, EDC and Poly-Cast rapid prototyping. The new PTBB is being touted as the most cost-efficient and effective bark beetle trap on the market.

The current Intercept PTBB trap design is an overall improved, modified version of an earlier Intercept bark beetle trap. Thanks in part to design aid from EDC, the PTBB trap is now stronger, more durable, more cost-effective and better built than the original Intercept beetle trap. The new PTBB trap is possibly the most earth-friendly bark beetle trap on the market. The PTBB trap uses considerably less insecticide than other traps, and offers a water only method of beetle eradication.

The PTBB offers an affordable and highly effective alternative to the traditional, environmentally damaging insecticide spray methods of bark beetle eradication. “This trap is really one of a kind,” says Bill Meade, Vice President of Manufacturing Operations at IPM. “The design is very unique and it works better than any other trap out there.”
