Engineering Design Consultants, Ltd. complete modeling of Freightliner bunk

PORTLAND, Ore., 2001—Engineering Design Consultants, Ltd (EDC) recently announced the completion of the meshing and finite element modeling (FEM) of a new bunk design for Freightliner LLC. All meshing and FEM work done on the new bunk was done in-house at EDC headquarters in Portland, Ore.

Freightliner hired EDC to help complete the meshing and FEM of the bunk on time and within budget. Freightliner also hired EDC to utilize its engineers’ proficiency in the highly technical computer-aided design program Altair Hypermesh. All of the meshing and FEA work done on the bunk design was done in Hypermesh.

The meshing and FEM work done on the bunk was highly technical and precise; utilizing both Plate and Block FEM elements to simulate the varying material properties found in a physical bunk. EDC’s superior work on the bunk ensured the final design delivered to the bunk producer, Advance USA, would support a quality final product that met all of Freightliner’s weight and durability specifications.
