EDC President and CEO Awarded Patent for Cup Holder Design

PORTLAND, Ore., 1994— The U.S. Government awarded Engineering Design Consultants, Ltd.’s (EDC) CEO and President, Rodger Garner, a patent for his unique heavy truck cup holder design. Garner’s cup holder design was created specially for Freightliner’s Century Class of heavy trucks. Originally designed in 1994, Garner’s cup holder design is still in production. 

The cup holder design itself is highly innovative in its ability to securely accommodate containers of varying sizes. Garner’s in-dash molded cup holder design adapts to either coffee mug, soda can or large 32-44 oz. cup. The cup holder design appears on passenger sides of the Century Class dashboard. 

Garner’s unique cup holder design is one of the many driver-friendly state-of-the-art additions to the Century Class that have made this truck Freightliner’s flagship truck. Garner maintains shared legal possession of the Century Class cup holder patent.
