Engineering Design Consultants, Ltd. help design the future of the business traveler

PORTLAND, Ore., 2000—Engineering Design Consultants, Ltd. (EDC) recently finished the industrial design, packaging, and tolerance stack analysis of Suite Technologies’ (STSN) newest modem. The new modem is designed specifically to provide business travelers with convenient in-room high-speed internet connections. This newest modem design has helped Suite Technologies become the current leading provider of hotel room modems.

Today more than 65 percent of all business travelers carry some sort of personal PC with them where ever they go. In an age of e-mail memos and web-conferences, it has become a virtual necessity for these travelers to “stay connected” while on the road. Unfortunately, the majority of hotels in America were built over 40 years ago and their antiquated structures cannot support the conversion to internet compatibility—and that’s where the new EDC designed STSN modem comes in.

The new STSN modem can be placed in any hotel, regardless of building design, and essentially lets travelers “plug-and-play” instantly in the privacy of their rooms. EDC designed the modem housing to contain three separate data ports so travelers can choose between the Ethernet, high-speed USB, or standard modem dial-ups. The housing design also features a flip-up instruction panel to make the modem completely self-contained, and quick and easy to use.

“I absolutely love the outer design work EDC did on the modem,” said Steve McDaniel of Suite Technologies. “We asked them come up with a design, and they gave us exactly what we wanted.”

Small, discrete and powerful, the STSN modem allows people to “stay connected” in places they otherwise could not. The STSN modem has quickly become an in-room necessity for the modern business traveler, and that is why this modem design can now be found in every Marriott hotel room nation-wide.
