Engineering Design Consultants, Ltd. Jennifer Gish Marketing Coordinator 503.735.2100 jgish@edc-ltd.com EDC Designs Revolutionary TouchOpen Storage Case Portland, OR-Engineering Design Consultants, Ltd. (EDC) has once again shown its diversity in the engineering and design industry. Portland-based Personakey Corporation recently enlisted EDC to help in the design of their new first-of-its-kind, biometric locking storage case, the TouchOpen. No more locks and keys and forgetful passwords or key codes, Biometrics are the wave of the future in security. Previously only used in science fiction, Biometric technology provides the ultimate in security using fingerprints, retina scans and voice recognition. Biometrics provide quick and easy, yet extremely secure, access for the owner. This particular new storage case can only be opened by recognized fingerprints. This new storage case was designed with children in mind, but its uses are practically endless. The Personakey TouchOpen will keep many items secure, including guns and knives. The storage case can store up to 1,000 different fingerprints if you want it to be accessible to others. Jory Radke, Vice President of Engineering for Personakey, had worked with EDC in his last position with Intel. He knew they would be right for the design of his invention. "What sets EDC apart from the others is their willingness to do new things," Radke said. "They were so receptive to the project and were even willing to throw in additional applications for the design. I couldn't be happier with EDC," Radke continued. Personakey needed a solution to their packaging needs for the new TouchOpen. EDC took its advanced engineering and design techniques in the consumer product area and created this solution. EDC designed a sensor bezor which incorporated the activation circuitry, indicator light and fingerprint sensor. It was EDC's mission to make the user's finger sit on the fingerprint reader properly for an accurate reading, but also to remain comfortable for the user. EDC accomplished this with ease. Along with the overall design, EDC also provided manufacturing solutions to Personakey to create short lead time for the project completion. EDC is based in Portland, Oregon and provides a full range of engineering and design services to all sectors of the consumer product, electronics, and transportation industry. EDC, whose evolution of ideas into reality, welcomed this unique project as an opportunity to further diversify its operations.
